Storytelling has always been very important to me. I became intrigued by comics, books, television and movies at an early age. In addition to these interests, art and technology have always sparked my need to learn and create. Shortly after attaining my undergraduate degree in Film & Video Production I began working as a student affairs professional in The Centre for Student Community & Leadership Development (SCLD) at York University . While coordinating York’s RED Zone program for several years I continually integrated and experimented with peer-to-peer community building via social media and multimedia technology. After attaining a certain level of success with this it became readily apparent that social media and digital technology are vitally important to the student experience and twenty-first century learning. As a result, I’ve been able to forge a new position for myself – Student Engagement & Media Coordinator – and a new Media & Communications Team made up of students dedicated to managing the online identity of our department and continuing to be leaders and ambassadors for York University on the digital front.
In addition to work I am currently enrolled part time at York University and studying towards my Master of Education (MEd) with a focus on higher education and technology.
The purpose of Idea Soup is to share and reflect upon ideas and resources in social media, digital media, learning, and higher education that I encounter both at work and in my studies. Posts on my blog that are related to a particular class I am taking will be categorized as such and easily found via the “Graduate School” drop down menu in the top, black navigation bar. Other posts relating to other topic will be categorized and tagged accordingly and can be found in the “Categories” list or the “Tag” cloud in the right hand navigation column.
